For over 140 years, Endo has been welcoming guests to its restaurants on the historical and atmospheric streets of Gion, Kyoto.

Originally founded as an ochaya teahouse where geisha would perform, we have honored that heritage and status while also continuing to innovate. Endo has embraced new styles and is always striving for new levels of culinary excellence.

Just beyond the precincts of Kennin-ji, one of Japan’s oldest Zen temples, our main restaurant lies hidden away on tranquil Yasaka-dori in the backstreets of Gion, overlooked auspiciously by Gojunoto Five-Storied Pagoda.

At all our secluded locations across Higashiyama, whether in Gion, Yasaka or Okazaki, we infuse long-held tradition with modern sensibilities, while maintaining an unbroken lineage of ochaya hospitality, to constantly offer new and original dining options that reflect the discernment and talent of our highly-trained chefs.

The Celestine Endo’s original menus combine traditional Kyoto cuisine, made with select seasonal produce from Kyoto and across Japan, with legendary tempura from the original Endo restaurant and celebrity favorites from our Beverly Hills branch. We offer a selection of four prix fixe menus to suit all occasions and tastes.

Our interior features an expansive floor-to-ceiling window looking out on swaying bamboo, an alcove and stage recalling the traditional shoin-zukuri style of residential architecture, tables large and small divided by stylish Kyoto latticework reminiscent of a tea ceremony space in a traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse, comfortable private rooms, which can be booked out for your exclusive use. We offer a range of seating options, all of which marry traditional and contemporary design.

Our dinner plans create a lavish and memorable dining experience that you won’t find anywhere else. Choose the Ochaya Party Plan to be entertained by elegant geisha and maiko in the geisha quarters of Miyagawa-cho. Make your special occasion more memorable still when you book out the entire restaurant with our Party Plan. And then there’s the Wine Pairing Plan, where an Endo sommelier selects wines to complement your meal… Endo Yasaka’s long history and status in Kyoto puts us in a unique position to offer a wide range of special plans.
